Assent Building Compliance has gone into administration. What should you do?

November 2025

Assent Building Compliance a national private building control firm supplying  inspection and certification, has just this week, gone into administration.

It is understood that Assent and its subsidiaries have been working on thousands of building control projects, nationally.

If Assent or one of its subsidiaries (like Oculus Building Consultancy or LB Building Control) was your Registered Building Control Approver (RBCA), your project may now be without a valid approver.

So, what does this mean for Assent’s clients? What should you do?

The good news is that it’s not the end of the road; you can revive  your application through your local authority.

The not-so-good news is that the submission through Assent is essentially a lost application, and that all fees paid to them may have been wasted.

(You should try to retrieve any inspection records, compliance certificates, or correspondence from Assent while their systems are still accessible.)

This is because if work has commenced, the local authority now has to pick up the pieces—these applications are technically retrospective; also known as ‘already-started-submissions’, and only councils have the capacity to deal with them; private licensed inspectors are generally not insured for such applications.

So what’s the process? If you were with Assent or any of its subsidiaries, a new application has to be submitted, and depending on which stage of the construction process the project has run to, some of the key works, such as steel beams, foundation depths, and insulation may have to be opened up and inspected.

Whilst we at B-R-A do work with private inspectors, the impact of this recent calamity demonstrates that local authority building control remains risk free in this ever-more challenging environment.

We provide services across the UK for retrospective / all-ready-started submissions. Contact us here and we’ll be pleased to help you through the process.
